Governance
The Board of Directors will be accountable for the management of incoming donations and the administration of grants to deserving cancer organizations. The governance structure has two main elements:
- A grant application committee that evaluates all incoming grant applications
- An event review committee that evaluates all event budgets to ensure maximum leverage of in-kind donations, corporate sponsorship fees and volunteer efforts
Each of these Committees will chaired by a member of the Board of Directors.
The goal of the foundation is to ensure that the highest percentage of receipted donations is contributed to the selected charities. Based on past experience with Tour For Kids, and our other events, this percentage will be much higher than most similar events. Our strategy is to use corporate sponsorships and participant event registration fees to cover event and Foundation administration costs. Also as an policy the Foundation has never used professional fundraising organizations. Used by other charities these professional fundraisers and telemarketers take a percentage, (often exceeding 50%) of the funds they raise as a fee for service. The Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation does not believe in this practice.
To support this focus, the Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation will be soliciting before the end of 2007, six to eight additional Board members, solicited from within the cancer community, medical communities and business communities. Final Board membership will include representation from across Canada and will be accountable to the mandate of the Foundation and the various stakeholders, including those who have committed funds in support of the Foundation. In addition, Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation will shortly be establishing an Advisory Board and a formal committee structure for events & gift giving. They will provide insight, support and validation for future fundraising programs and will advocate for the Foundation and its’ programs and events.
