Day 16, January 20, 2002

JEFF'S UPDATE

Well another brutal day! Light to moderate headwinds [which I still don't understand what happened to the west winds!!], some pretty brutal pavement, combined with the 155 miles ridden resulted in a very long day finishing after dark to the lights of the RV. But like the other 15 days we made our destination goal because of the importance of the cause we are riding for.

We got motivation from the people we rode for today. Joan Holden was the mother of my good friend Nick Holden who was sadly passed away recently from cancer. Hazel Abrahamson, was a friend of my friend Debbie Joy who also unfornuately passed away from cancer. These two life stories point to the importance of finding a cure for this deadly disease.

Tomorrow we are hoping we get some westerly winds for a change and some warmer weather as we hope to stay 60 miles ahead of schedule

Goodnight and my love to Brooklyn, Skylar, and Diane. Jeff

KEVIN'S UPDATE

On the home stretch. We can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel. Hopefully that light keeps getting brighter every day. Today's 155 miles was a push and I'd be lying if I said it was one of our better days. The rain, cold weather, and headwinds made it a very big challenge. 8.5 hours riding time and 2 twenty minute breaks wasn't what the doctor ordered for those saddle sores!

The most positive thing about today was Jennifer was feeling better after a bout with food poisoning which laid her flat out and had us all pretty worried. The team is back now healthy for the final push to the end.

Rose, stay tuned I will be home on the 30th. Miss you all Kevin Wallace
