Day 7, January 11, 2002

JEFF'S UPDATE

A great day!! After finishing the major mountains yesterday today was a relatively flat ride down through the Rio Grande Valley to El, Paso Texas. We rode fast completing the first 100 miles/162 kms in under 5 hours with 3,800 of climbing. I think we are able to do this because Kevin and I are really working together as a team, and got energy for the hundreds of comments for those of you who are following us.

We decided to ride hard today to give strength to two special people we dedicated the day two. Both are currently battling cancer. Peter Damianakis is the 2 year old nephew of a good friend of mine who is currently battling Leukemia. It just doesn't seem fair that such a little child should have to endure such a thing. Our thoughts, prayers, and wishes are with Peter and his entire family.

We also rode today for Jacquie Craig who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Her life history shows her strength of character which hopefully will help her through the months ahead with her cancer treatment. We hope our effort today will give you just a little more strength to help you with your battle.

Tomorrow we have a long mileage day as we try to get a bit ahead of schedule.

Goodnight and my love to Brooklyn, Skylar, and Diane. You pulled me through the day!

Jeff

KEVIN'S UPDATE

Jeff and I rode strong today. The scenery wasn't as grand but riding a bike through the flat rural country is a big part of what I like about cycling.

The smell of the country makes me think of hard work, integrity and dedication. Thank you for all your messages so far! They are giving us strength and making us stronger day by day. During the countless hours and miles my thoughts reflect on what people have posted. It allows me to displace any pain or fatigue, and push the pedals harder.

Your support is appreciated and it gives meaning to why we are doing the Coast to Coast ride against Cancer. Keep writing!

Rose thanks for everything that you are doing in preparation for our wedding

Kevin
