Day 1, January 5, 2002
Jeff's
update
What an incredible day!! Our support team was amazing on the
January 4th set up day and did amazing on job supporting us all day. [Chrissy
from Outdoor Life Network on camera and general support, Jeff's brother
Kenn our driver and general do everything guy, and Jennifer Currie our
massage therapist]. We simply could not have pulled it off without this
team.
January 5th was an amazing day. We started the day with about 30 friends seeing us off from Ocean Park Beach in San Diego [thank you all for coming] with two TV crews from the local stations filming us [one of them live!!] After that we rode [and rode, and rode!] out of San Diego, over the coastal range, and into the desert. We achieved our goal for the day travelling 130 miles, and consuming 8,000 calories while on the bike. Kevin and I were joined today by Hamish Gordon our friend from Toronto who will be biking with us from Jan 5th-7th ; Hamish did a great job and breaking some wind [not what you think!], and riding with pride all day!
I road today for my incredible family and for James Richards the little boy who cancer took from us just a short while ago. My thoughts, hopes, and prayers are with James' family. He was and will be throughout the team an inspiration as the reason we are all doing this trip; to make a difference in the fight for cancer.
Looking forward to January 6th ride; it will be a big one and as I sign off we are debating our route; the locals say the road we want to take is very bad so we are looking at another route that will get us there but be a long way around [somewhere around 270kms/165 miles] As I sign off I just want to tell Skylar, Brooklyn, and Diane my wonderful family goodnight and I love you.
