Arthur George Williams
submitted by his son Christopher
Arthur George Williams died at the age of 67 from Colon Cancer.
Born in New York in 1928, my dad graduated from
Manhattan College with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He
served in the Marine Corps and retired as a captain. He then went
on to become an International Business Executive working with
such companies as ITT, RCA, Holland America Cruise Lines and IU
International. Dad accomplished many things in his business career
including overseeing the sales and deployments of NATO satellite
contracts throughout Europe and building distribution channels
throughout Europe for ITT and RCA. He returned with his family
to the United States after 15 years in Europe and served as an
SVP at IU international and CEO at Holland America Cruise Lines.
My fathe's business success was the initial inspiration for my
career. It was the most obvious example to follow. As I matured
and started a family it became apparent to me that his legacy
was in his love of life and his family. Dad knew that life was
more than just hard work. He labored hard to provide a life full
of experiences that we would always remember.
Dad was an avid fan of thoroughbred racing and
owned a number of race horses. When I was a child he used to take
me to the stables to see the horses work out before we went to
my little league games. Accompanying my dad as he and his trainer
gave instructions to the jockey before a race was always a thrill.
Our vacations in the south of Spain each year provided us with
the important family time that memories are made of.
Dad was also a devotee of the opera and performing
arts in general. Having been exposed to the arts in Europe, Dad
was intent in not only sharing this with his family but with others.
Upon retiring he joined the board of the Highland Historical Society
in Ft., Washington, PA and introduced a series of Musical events;
"The Glyndebourne Festival", an outdoor Jazz concert,
and a series of Chamber Music concerts entitled "Tea and
Symphony" that are still enjoyed my many patrons today.
Dad is survived by my mom, Mavourneen,
my sister Susan and brother Michael (a cancer survivor himself)
as well as four grandchildren. His love of family and the impact
he had on all will not be forgotten. We love you dad.
