back
to dedications
My name is Carletta Marsman and I am 17 years
old. I am a grade 12 student at Cole Horbour District High School.
I live with my mom and I have three sisters.
Throughout my school years I have always been
on the principal's or honour's list. I was a little different
during grade 10. It all started in January 2001 when I was diagnosed
with Hodgkin's Disease, a form of cancer. This illness prevented
me from attending school each day. Weekly I traveled to Halifax
for blood work, chemotherapy, and a variety of tests. During grade
10 I was unable to write my first semester exams because I was
very ill. The school was sensitive to my situation and I appreciated
their helpful support. I received marks based on the work I accomplished.
I tried to attend school on a full time basis when I was able.
Even though I felt sick at times, I tried not to miss school.
I realize how important good marks are, and I strive to give it
my best.
This July will mark the two years that my cancer
has been in remission. Everything thus far has been great; I pray
that it will continue to go this way. I graduate June 2003 from
high school and I will be attending Saint Mary's University in
fall 2003. I plan to major in Sociology and minor in English.
Also, I would like to achieve a certificate or degree as a therapist
or cosmetologist.
I enjoy doing a variety of activities during
my free time and I have many interests. I am very artistic and
I love scrap booking. I also have a passion for writing poetry.
I enjoy fashion, music, entertainment, and computers.
People I would like to thank, who helped me
throughout my cancer are my mother, my family, my nurses, and
anyone who prayed and helped to keep me positive during such a
difficult time.
