Heather McHale Age: 53 of Markham, Ontario
submitted by her husband, Rick McHale
Heather was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in March of 1998. Her
initial diagnosis was not promising. The tumours had metastasized
and were inoperable. Her initial chemotherapy treatment was palliative.
Her treatment was further complicated by a severe allergic reaction
to Taxol, the drug of choice for treating ovarian cancer. Her
battle with cancer was a story of determination, positive attitude
and strength. She handled the challenge in a manner that gave
those around her strength and hope no matter what the challenge.
She received exceptional treatment from both Sunnybrook and Scarborough
Centenary Hospitals, but in particular from incredible medical
personnel who could never do enough and were always available.
She successfully battled the disease for 2 and 1/2 years never
letting it reduce her joy of living and life.
Highlights:
Her motto "Living Life to the Fullest is the Best Revenge"
"Making it" for her sons wedding
The first of three golf tournaments organized by her daughter
Her smile and laugh
Her "will do" attitude
The special care of Ursula and Diane
Her comment at the end to a home care Dr. who was listing the
various treatments available and asking if she had had them, that,
"please let her know if there was something else I should
be trying because I am giving away my jewellery!"
The care and attention of friends and strangers
Lowlights:
CAT scans, blood results and CA125 readings.
Anaphylactic shock
Wishing the wedding was sooner
Seeing the pain in your childrens eyes
Not seeing her daughter married or her first grandchild
