Name: Kerry Vandendriessche Age: 18
Azilda, Ontario
Type of Cancer: leukaemia

When I was three I complained to my parents that my knees where hurting me. My mother took me to the doctor and he sent us to several specialists, who eventually sent us to the hospital for sick children in Toronto. There I was diagnosed with (ALL) and put on treatment. I received chemotherapy and cranial radiation. After three years I went in to remission. Just before I went in to remission I moved up to Sudbury form Toronto. After remission I had check up’s once a week at the local cancer treatment clinic at the hospital and yearly visits to sick kids every year.

Highlights: (Memorable moments, turning points, favourite memories)
I don’t have many memorable moments because I was so young and didn’t understand what was going on. However, when I was eight I attended camp oochigeas for the first time. It was a great experience and I returned for eight years until I was 15. Those eight summers I spent at camp oochigeas were the best eight summers of my life and I mad lasting friendships. I do have to say that my favourite moment through my cancer experience was going into remission and not having to take all the medication every night.

Current Status: I am 18 fully healthy and looking forward to going to university next year

Favourite Activity(s) now: dancing, basketball, swimming, relaxing on my boat.
