Laurette Gauthier (St. Georges) Age: 46 of Sturgeon Falls, ON

Laurette, our mother, was diagnosed at 40 years old with Breast Cancer. She had chemotherapy and radiation treatments in Toronto, Ontario. She had to travel 400 km for all her treatments. For the next six years, she returned semi-annually for follow-ups and/or treatments to Toronto. Mom lost her battle with cancer at the age of 46; she had 5 grown children, a 15 & 17 year old at home as well as her husband. Today, Sudburians have access to cancer care in Sudbury at the Northeastern Ontario Regional Cancer Centre. Travelling for treatments was very stressful on Laurette and her family. It is wonderful to have cancer care closer to home.

Lowlights:
The lowlights were when she would find another lump and had to have treatments again!

Laurette passed away on June 30, 1982, 21 years ago.

She is missed!
