to dedications
Charles E. Madison, 56, was diagnosed with Colon
Cancer on January 28, 2003. He had been having problems for many
months with incorrect diagnoses. By the time Charles was correctly
diagnosed, the cancer had metastasized to his liver and lungs,
with over 40 nodules on the lungs alone.
After a colon resection to remove the original
tumor in his colon; we got a 1st opinion from a local doctor,
2nd opinion at Mayo Clinic, and 3rd opinion at Johns Hopkins,
we chose Johns Hopkins for follow-on treatment. They were our
choice because of their approach to treatment, their track record
in treating colon cancer, the treatment options available, and
the proximity to our home.
Charles has now undergone 2 months of chemotherapy
treatment and we are happy to report that the results look positive.
The cancer has stopped spreading and one of the pulmonary tumors
has started to shrink. He also continues to have normal liver
and lung funtion.
Through our faith and the many prayers and support of our family
and friends all over the world, we have waged a personal war against
Cancer with only a victory in mind. Charles has spent his life
inspiring others through his work in Summer Youth Rowing Programs
(hes a master skuller) and continues to inspire others in
his positive approach to fighting Cancer and living life in general.
We continue to look forward, but we appreciate
each and every day that we have together even more than we did
before. We have also learned what patience really is as well as
learned to believe and let go when something is really out of
your control and be persistent when it isnt.
Thank you for your participation in fighting
a disease that we still know so little about.
