"I just turned 50. I just celebrated 25 years of fun and learning and laughing and loving with my sweetheart, Virginia. My father just died last Fall. These are some of the major milestones that one expects to pass in life. And all – particularly my father’s passing – are worthy of commemoration and celebration, each in it’s own way. So, I celebrated the Big 5-0 with a wonderful gathering of family and closest friends, and by signing up for another year of Sunday and Thursday night hockey. Virginia and I will celebrate 25 years of togetherness by going on a cruise to Alaska later this summer. And I will celebrate and honour my father’s life – and the meaning he brought to mine – by supporting the C2C team as they ride across the country for a great cause. Virginia and I never had children, but as I think of all my young, healthy and active nieces and nephews and all our friends’ kids who we love as much, I wonder what we can do right now to make sure that they never suffer with cancer the way parents and aunts and uncles have. Being a support driver for the Coast to Coast Ride Against Cancer is one thing I will do, right now."

Alisha Denis
Alisha has just completed the Humber College Public Relations 3-year program with Honours. Her connection to Candlelighters comes from her 2 month co-op placement which she did in the Fall of 2002. She displayed much promise and initiative, as well as showing a definite passion for this cause. She covered a myriad of tasks, including writing, copyrighting, editing, proofing (PR materials and fundraising copy) as well as supporting public relations/special events (press releases and media relations).

Alisha is coming to us straight off her internship as Public Relations
Assistant at DMG world media which she did for 4 months to complete her diploma. DMG world media is the company behind over 300 consumer and trade shows around the world. There she was responsible for media relations, internal communications and special events planning. This experience compounded with her background knowledge of our organization makes her an excellent addition to the office, as she can hit the ground running on many of the projects.

  Mike Maloney, Halifax, NS
Mike is a four-year veteran of the Toronto public relations scene who has recently moved back to the Maritimes. With a wealth of international media relations experience under his belt, Mike will be orchestrating the East Coast publicity buzz, and heads up the hard-working team of Halifax volunteers who are eager to make the ride's finale event a great success.
